Hawks win in straight sets over Wentworth

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team began its 2007 Commonwealth Coast Conference season with a 9-0 win Thursday evening against Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Jessica Manners (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Joanna Nettelfield (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each came away with convincing wins, as neither player dropped a set during the match, winning their respective doubles and singles flights with 8-0 and 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Manners defeated Alex Dupnik (Shamong, N.J.) in #1 singles, and then teamed up with Caitlyn Leone (Irvington, N.Y.) for the victory in #1 doubles over Dupnik and Angela Brandt (Northport, Maine).

Nettelfield's #4 singles match came against Brandt, while her #2 doubles match with Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) paired the duo against Lydia Caserta (Hudson, Mass.) and Jeannine Stover (Calais, Maine).

Roger Williams (1-1, 1-0 TCCC) will take on another conference opponent Saturday afternoon, when the Hawks host Endicott College at 1:00 p.m.
